FF Interview Tips
A firefighter candidate will undoubtedly have to interview for any firefighter job that they apply for. Before heading out to the interview, preparing thoroughly to maximize your interview rating points is critical. Keep in mind, that this is the only chance you may get to show who you really are and what you're about. Below are some interview tips to help maximize your interview rating points.
When getting dressed, less is more. Don't wear jewelry: a simple watch will do. Don't overdo the perfume/cologne, hair gel, or nail polish. With your suits, wear dark colors and make sure that your clothe is cleaned and pressed. And guys make sure you shave. With cell phones, turn them off or leave them in the car.
Bring a resume and cover letter. Make sure you bring a pen and a pad of paper in case you have to write something down. Go out and spend a few dollars on some professional business cards. This should help with remembering you and separating you from the crowd.
Visit the interview site the day before. Bring an umbrella because youn never know what the weather is going to do. Map your route to know exactly how long it will take to arrive, and plan for traffic delays.
Your interview begins the moment you enter the building. Exhibit proper etiqutte and respect to those you meet. Always be courteous and professional before, during, and after the interview. Shake hands with everyone, make eye contact, smile big, and act confident. After the interview, thank the interviewers for the opportunity and their time.
