Women's Interview Attire
Women's Interview Attire
Dark blue or black conservative two-piece suit - Your skirt should cover your thighs when you are seated. A skirt that ends at the knee when you're standing looks professional. A small, center slit in the back of a knee-length skirt is appropriate. Look in the mirror and think about what your interviewer is going to see. If the suit is distracting and takes the focus off of you, then it is wrong for this occasion.
Coordinated blouse – Do not show cleavage or have monograms and designs that draw attention away from you.
Shoes - Should be leather or fabric / micro fiber. Choose closed-toed pumps and leave home the stilettos or platform shoes. Make certain you can walk comfortably in your shoes. Walking in pain and looking uncomfortable in shoes does not convey a professional appearance. Believe it or not many interviewers form first impressions based solely on a candidate’s shoes.
Limited jewelry – A conservative watch and earrings are fine. Dangling earrings and a Rolex watch may distract the interviewer. Some jewelry is acceptable and even attractive for a job interview. The goal is for cosmetic pieces to complement rather than compete with your overall look.
Neat, professional hairstyle - Styling should be simple and not appear as if you spent hours preparing it. Your hair should not be a distraction or the focus of the interviewer. Wear your hair the same as the female firefighters on the interview panel are required to. Which is hair up in a ponytail or off the collar.
Hosiery - Should be plainly styled without designs and sheer. Wear a neutral color that complements your suit.
Sparse make-up & perfume – Keep make-up to a minimum and as unnoticeable as possible. Perfume is fine so long as it is not overbearing and the interviewer does not struggle to breathe.
Manicured nails – Do not use bright or vibrant nail polish.
Portfolio or briefcase – Carry the resume you prepared for the panel in something plain yet professional looking.
